The Masters’ Message

Here it is.

Brethren,

Summer is upon us and we will be going dark before long, but we have a lot to do first.

We will start insulating and drywalling the walls in the ladeis dressing room, entry area, and hallway.  We will begin this work on Saturday, June 5th at 8:00 a.m.

Brethren, we need help.  It is your Lodge, too.  There is something that you all can do-for example:  pass tools, make coffee, clean up, etc.

There will be a Grand Master's class on June 19 starting at 9:00 a.m. at Stonington Lodge in Amherst.  Brethren, we need Mentors for our candidates that day.

Brethren, you should support your Lodge.

Fraternally,

Harold E. Casselman, Worshipful Master

How Strong is Black River Lodge?

How do we measure the strength of our lodge?

By the number of our members?, By the quality of the ritual work ?,  By the amount of charitable work the lodge does?, or By the number of  members that attend our meetings?   I believe none of these reflect the true strength of a lodge.   A lodge’s strength is based on the involvement of its members.  All the other aspects of the lodge will improve, as more members are active and involved.

Regretfully, our lodge is very weak.  Although we have a large membership of almost 300 Master Masons, we are lucky if we can fill the officer seats of the lodge at meetings.   At fund raising events, 3 brothers and the wife of a brother are all that are able to serve, cook , and clean.  To keep down costs,  the Master encourages brothers to help remodel the lodge on a Saturday, the master and four brothers show up. Simular results are had at the fellowcraft breakfast each month.

We must ask ourselves,  how much longer can our lodge continue?  The current active members are being worn down.  They can not be expected to continue to carry the burden year after year.

Every member needs to search for a way to help the Lodge.  Become as active as you can!  Any small amount would help and be greatly appreciated.

If nothing else,  try to attend at least 2 or 3 meetings a year,  it will show the officers and other active members that you appreciate their efforts, and you may rediscover the reason why you became a Master Mason and the enthusiasm for the institution you once had.
